Photographers in Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is often described as a continent in miniature, and for a photographer that is close to literal. The Maspalomas dunes in the south are a genuine desert — ridges of pale sand meeting the ocean, best in the first and last hour of light, and one of the most striking backdrops in the country. Drive inland and within an hour you are among pine forest, ravines and the rock monolith of Roque Nublo. Las Palmas on the north coast adds a colonial old town and a long city beach. Warm all year.
